Industry Pioneer World Cinema Enters Mexico Market with Established Track Record of TV Services in More Than 4,000 Hotels in U.S.
CANCUN/HOUSTON October 10, 2019 – GigNet, a Digital Infrastructure Company with a 19,200 fiber-kilometer broadband network from Costa Mujeres to Cancun to Tulum, announced today a partnership with World Cinema, Inc., a leader of in-room entertainment in North America, to provide “over-the-top (OTT)” streaming and casting solutions and real-time channel content to hotel properties in the Mexican Caribbean. OTT media service enables guests to view live television programming on personal devices and stream their content over the Internet from the comfort of their guest room on personal devices.
The service, branded “WorldVue® Powered by GigNet,” allows hotels to customize their TV menu screen with the services and information for their guests, such as spa, restaurants, gym hours, maps and directions, and featured amenities.
In addition to powerful streaming apps, the platform includes hotel brand standard apps, with future apps released at no cost to the property. For security, all guest credentials are cleared upon check in and out.
Optional add-ons include LG-Branded Commercial Televisions and the casting solution Chromecast powered by WorldVue® that allows guests to use the apps on their personal devices for their viewing pleasure in three simple steps: connect to the hotel’s WiFi; pull up content on their personal device; and, connect to the TV and start casting.
The rapid increase in popularity of OTT services, and expectations to have these services become more readily accessible to guests away from home, have given GigNet and World Cinema the opportunity to offer this world-class technology.
“Our product WorldVue® is a completely customizable platform to enable guests a seamless stay. Having the ability to offer the most popular streaming apps gives our customers the opportunity to expand their in-room entertainment experience and improve guests satisfaction scores,” said Nick Jones, Executive Vice President of World Cinema. “Guests are increasingly becoming more dependent on their personal devices which is why we are excited to partner with Gignet to offer WorldVue® in the Mexican Caribbean and become the sole entertainment offering to guests.”
“GigNet is the newest broadband network in the Mexican Caribbean designed specifically for hospitality, enterprise and mobile-carrier customers where a high level of reliability and service availability are essential,” explained Mark Carney, Chief Business Development Officer for GigNet. “We look forward to working with World Cinema to deliver the kinds of in-room entertainment hotel guests are demanding. Increasingly, these services are being defined by hotel customers, which we will demonstrate in our Cancun office and on-line.”
“We are setting a new international standard for the Mexican Caribbean with our Internet and WiFi solutions, and by adding valuable partner solutions, such as World Cinema’s premier offerings,” said GigNet’s Chairman & CEO Paul A. Moore. “As a Digital Infrastructure Company, we are leveraging our connectivity to do more, including providing OTT content, commercial TVs, device streaming and casting to help our hospitality customers focus on what they do best – operate their property – while we meet their connectivity and media needs.”
